Grace Hyde is a Triple Club Champion

The 2012 Club Championships were held on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September.
There were 12 events with a total of 82 entries.
Grace Hyde was the standout player winning the Ladies Singles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Dave Martin won the prestigious Mens Championship Singles and partnered Paul Schneider to also win the Mens Doubles.
President Bob Tindale thanked all players for supporting the first Club Championships in ten years and going on its success was sure the Championships would now continue each year.
Bob presented the excellent trophies to all the Winners and Runners Ups.
Parents and supporters witnessed some excellent tennis and enjoyed a Lunchtime BBQ on the Sunday.
It was pleasing to see social players (Peter D, Neil Smith, Rick Harley, Trish Meyer and Steve White) having a game.

$5 Million for Arkinstall Park Development

$5 Million for Arkinstall Park Development

The Federal Government will contribute $5 Million to the Tweed Shire Council toward the proposed $42 Million Arkinstall Park Project.
Other contributors to the initial stages –

  • Tennis Australia $100,000
  • Tweed Shire Council $2.62Million
  • Netball Association $30,000

The initial stages of the re-development include netball courts & tennis centre capable of hosting major events. The proposed commencement date is end of 2012.
Future stages will include an indoor sports stadium, a major new clubhouse, multi-use sports fields with grandstands & floodlighting, health & fitness facilities & improved community amenities such as barbeque areas.

Bob Murray & Roger Federer win at Indian Wells

Tweed Heads senior player Bob Murray’s team won the Super Sixties (Over 60) event at Indian Wells in Palm Springs.
The event has been running for 19 years and attracts over 900 players worldwide.
Tennis is very popular in this area with 120 courts in close proximity to conduct the Tournament.
The other team members were John Moore, Bob Stirling & Possum from Geelong and Jeff Bentley and Laurie Wyvill from Gold Coast.
In the final at Indian Wells Bob’s team needed to win the last two sets.
They fought back from 1/5 down to take the second last set 6/5 then won the final set to clinch victory.
